I’m coming to you from the San Bernardino Rivian Adventure Network. I’m here charging up and bringing you a massive update on everything happening in the world of Rivian ownership.
From navigating the Campaign service requests to dealing with astronomical price hikes in the charging network, there is a lot for us R1T and R1S owners to talk about. Plus, I’m giving you an exclusive look at a brand-new, modular storage system from a fellow Rivian owner that is going to change how you organize your cabin.
The Rivian “Campaign” vs. Recall
I recently got a call from Rivian about what they call a “Campaign.” For those new to the brand, a campaign is basically a proactive correction. It’s not a full-blown safety recall or even a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin), but rather a precaution for specific VIN numbers.
- 12V Battery: They originally called to replace my 12V battery, but realized they had already done that at my house (check out that video if you missed it!).
- The New Fix: This latest campaign involves suspension bushings near the four wheels. My appointment is set for April 2nd.
- Service Note: I did mention I have running boards installed. While the call center couldn’t confirm if that’s an issue, I’ve verified they don’t block the factory lift points, so it should be a smooth visit.

Upcoming Software: Gen 1 vs. Gen 2
There are some big software updates on the horizon, but there is a bit of a divide between the hardware generations:
- Enhanced Highway Assistance (EHA): This is the “hands-free” highway driving. Unfortunately, this is a Gen 2 exclusive due to the more advanced camera and computer suite. Gen 1 cameras (like mine) are essentially disabled for this level of autonomy.
- Mirror Tilt in Reverse: Great news! Gen 1 owners should get this. While the Rivian bird’s-eye view is the best in the business, having the mirrors tilt down is a nice “Tesla-style” comfort feature I’m happy to see added.
The Sting: Rivian Adventure Network Price Hikes
I’m a bit upset to report that RAN (Rivian Adventure Network) rates have skyrocketed. In San Bernardino, it has jumped from ~46 cents to 68 cents per kWh. That is Electrify America territory!
My Advice:
- Use Referrals: Shout out to those who used my link—we both got 6 months of free charging. This is the only way to avoid that 68-cent sting right now. If you need to use a referral link, please consider using mine – https://my.linkpod.site/rivian.
- Tesla Subscription: It might actually be cheaper to pay the $12.99/month Tesla subscription to get member rates (~44 cents) at compatible Superchargers. On average, if you need to charge at least 80% of your battery, that one charge should make up for the subscription fee.
New Hardware: IrvLabs R1 CMS Organizer
I teamed up with my friend Irvin from IrvLabs to test out a prototype of his new R1 CMS (Center Console Modular System). Irvin is a fellow R1S owner who is “picnic ready” 24/7, and his design reflects that real-world experience. While this prototype was provided to me for free, I am providing my honest feedback with this product.
- Material: Heavy-duty Steel. He chose steel for durability and weight so it doesn’t bounce around during off-road adventures.
- Modularity: It features standard MOLLE panels on the sides. You can swap between full-height or half-height panels depending on your needs.
- Smart Design: The edges are curved so you don’t scrape your leg while driving. It also has a specific latch that slides perfectly into the Rivian’s floor slots, keeping it rock-solid.
- Storage: It easily holds massive water bottles (like the Rivian Miir) and has a modular shelf for tools or charging adapters.

As we approach the one-year anniversary of my R1T, I’m prepping a full review. Even with the charging price hikes and the “Gen 2 FOMO” on software, this truck remains my favorite overall EV for adventures. And with accessories like the IrvLabs organizer coming out, the ecosystem is only getting better.
