First Look at the 2025 Hummer EV: Is This the Ultimate Electric Truck?

Hummer EV
Just got up close with the BRAND NEW 2025 Hummer EV! Removable roof, crab walk mode, and a 205 kWh battery?! 😱 Is this the ultimate electric truck? First look video on the blog!

You are not going to believe where I am – inside the massive Hummer EV!! My buddy Paul just snagged a brand new 2025 Hummer EV, and of course, I had to rush over and check out this beast of an electric vehicle. Paul is no stranger to the EV life, owning a 2013 Model S and a 2023 Model Y Long Range, but this Hummer EV… this is on a whole different level.

Seriously, the battery in this thing is HUGE – a whopping 205 kWh! I think it’s bigger than his Tesla Model S and Model Y batteries combined! This particular model is the 2X, and let me tell you, it’s impressive.

Let’s start with the charge port location – finally, it’s in the right spot! GM put it on the rear driver’s side, which is perfect for Tesla Superchargers now that they’re compatible. No more awkward double-parking (unless it’s as wide as a Cybertruck, maybe!). Paul’s Hummer EV is black on black with tinted windows, looking sleek and imposing. It even comes with stock running boards, which are definitely needed to climb into this thing. And yes, it still has ultrasonic sensors – nice touch.

The tires are Wrangler Territory all-terrain beasts, size 305/55/22. And get this – it’s a squared setup! Around the back, more ultrasonic sensors. Now, for the tailgate trick I was excited to see. You push a button, the tailgate drops, and then another button underneath reveals a built-in step! Very cool for getting into the bed, which, by the way, feels wider than the Rivian R1T’s bed. It even has a 120-volt, 400-watt outlet in the bed – not quite as powerful as the Rivian’s 1500W, but still handy.

The taillights are super modern, and just like Teslas, the Hummer EV has frameless windows that lower slightly when you open the doors. Stepping inside, the interior is a mix of modern tech and traditional truck vibes. You have a screen behind the steering wheel with a compass and speedometer, and a massive central screen. But thankfully, GM kept physical buttons for essential controls! And a traditional shifter in the center console – no steering wheel stalks here. The door handles are awesome, and the seats are perforated leather with Hummer EV badging and ventilated cooling – perfect for hot days. There are even drive modes like “Crab Walk” and modes to adjust the ride height. And did I mention the removable roof panels?!

Paul popped off the front transparent roof panels to show me – they are tinted plastic and store neatly in the frunk! Yes, a frunk! It’s spacious, although no under-compartment storage. The front also houses cameras and heavy-duty tow hooks. Back to the rear, the Hummer EV has a camera-based rearview mirror, a backup camera by the license plate, and even a bed camera, just like the Rivian! The hitch receiver is exposed and ready for action. Ground clearance is impressive, even in the standard ride height.

But the coolest party trick? The power rear window! It drops down completely, letting you enjoy that open-air feeling with the roof panels off. We played around with the drive modes, checking out the cool animations on screen. Then, it was time to plug in.

We used a Tesla charger with a Tesla to J1772 adapter. Paul’s Hummer EV was at 43% charge. It was pulling in 16 mph at 240 volts and estimating about 6 hours and 15 minutes to reach 80% charge, adding 135 miles of range to get to 255 miles total. Not bad for a massive battery like this.

I had to ask Paul about the lease deal. He traded in his 2022 Jeep Gladiator, put $3,000 down, and is leasing it for three years with 15,000 miles per year. The monthly payment? $1380. He mentioned he traded in his Jeep for around $33,000 and rolled some of the remaining balance into the lease. Despite the payment, he’s thrilled with the Hummer EV, saying it’s way more fun than the Jeep and he’s driving it every day now. Turns out, this is Paul’s fifth EV! We’re definitely going to have to get him on EV Confessions soon to hear all about his EV journey.

Huge thanks to Paul for letting me check out his brand new Hummer EV. It’s a seriously impressive electric truck, packed with features and presence. What do you think of the Hummer EV?
