Cybertruck Delivery Day: My 6th Tesla and a New Year’s Surprise

New Year, New Truck! Sherwin takes delivery of his 6th Tesla—the Cybertruck—and breaks down the initial specs and delivery day drama.

I’m wearing the “Delivery Day” shirt because I cannot believe this is actually happening. It’s New Year’s Eve, and we just pulled the trigger on a massive addition to the fleet. This is officially our sixth Tesla, and let me tell you, this one was a complete surprise—even to me.

I always thought Abby would eventually want a Cybertruck, especially since she isn’t the biggest fan of the Rivian R1T for long road trips. I predicted we might end up with two trucks, but I didn’t expect it to happen this quickly. Thanks to some year-end deals that were simply too good to pass up, we headed down to West Covina to pick up our brand-new beast.

The Showroom Floor: A Last-Minute Decision

We actually scoped out the truck the night before at the West Covina Tesla. This particular unit was a showroom/demo vehicle with only about 222 miles on the odometer. It was in pristine condition (mostly), and the excitement of taking delivery on the final day of the year was the perfect way to close out 2024.

Delivery Day Inspection: The Good, The Bad, and The Typical

Since this is my sixth time going through a Tesla delivery, I knew exactly what to look for. My buddy Dennis came along to help me inspect the truck. Even with a “delivery day bow” on the hood, we found a few items that needed documentation:

  • The Frunk Alignment: The front trunk lid isn’t perfectly aligned, which is a fairly common sight on early Cybertruck runs.
  • Stainless Scratches: There was a minor scratch on the stainless steel that the service team said they can easily sand out.
  • Glass Imperfections: We noticed some slight scratching on the B-pillar glass.

I’ve already submitted a service ticket for these. It’s nothing new with Tesla delivery, but I always recommend taking photos and documenting everything within the app before you even leave the lot.

First Drive & Technical Specs

As soon as I hopped in, I did my usual ritual: resetting Trip B to “Lifetime” so I can track every single watt-hour this truck uses while in my possession. Here is the data from our very first 50 miles:

MetricInitial Delivery Data
Odometer222 Miles
Trip Distance (First Run)49 Miles
Energy Consumed21 kWh
Average Efficiency433 Wh/mi
Starting State of Charge61%

The truck also came with some sweet delivery perks, including 3 months of unlimited Supercharging and 3 months of Full Self-Driving (FSD). Interestingly, it didn’t come with a USB drive for Sentry Mode, but Chris from the delivery team hooked me up with a thumb drive on the spot—shoutout to the West Covina team for the top-tier service!

The Fleet Shuffle: Model X vs. Cybertruck

A big part of why Abby finally gave the green light is that we are officially surrendering our Model X Plaid. Between the buyback approval and the deals available on the Cybertruck, the numbers just made sense.

I’ll be doing a dedicated video soon breaking down the exact numbers, the insurance costs, and the specific discounts we got by picking up a showroom demo. Moving from the Plaid Studios to a Cybertruck daily driver is going to be a massive change in lifestyle and content, and I can’t wait to share the journey with you.

Final Thoughts for the New Year

Taking delivery on New Year’s Eve was a whirlwind. Between running errands at Portos and getting used to the “steer-by-wire” system, it’s been an incredible start to 2025. I’m looking forward to putting this truck through some serious technical testing and off-road adventures.
