Tesla Model X Plaid Buyback Approved: What’s Next?

Chair in Cosmopolitan balcony
Tesla has approved the buyback for Abby's Model X Plaid! Join him in Las Vegas as he discusses the next steps for the fleet and why the Rivian R1T is staying put.

I’m coming to you from the Cosmopolitan Balcony in Las Vegas. We’re out here for Thanksgiving, but I wanted to drop a major update regarding the channel and our fleet.

The biggest news: Tesla has officially approved the buyback for our Model X Plaid. As many of you know, this has been a long time coming. We are currently waiting on the final offer letter to see the valuation. Our previous buyback experience resulted in a 100% refund plus registration fees, so we’re hoping for a repeat of that. This might be the last road trip for the Plaid before “Surrender Day.”

Planning the Next EV: R1S Tri-Motor or Cybertruck?

With the Model X leaving the driveway, Abby and I are using this Vegas trip to discuss our next move. We’re currently looking at a few “next-step” vehicles:

  • Rivian R1S Tri-Motor: We recently did a demo drive of the new Tri-Motor setup. I’ll have that video up soon.
  • Tesla Cybertruck: After our demo drive, it’s definitely on the table. Recently, I assisted Kobra Told Ya. He picked up a set of Foundation Series all-terrain tires for his new truck.

One thing is certain: we have to keep a truck in the fleet. I hauled 35-inch Cybertruck tires in the bed of the R1T. This experience proved once again that a truck is essential for the lifestyle we lead.

Hardware & Utility: The R1T Saves the Day (Again)

Speaking of the R1T, it “saved another Tesla owner” this week. KobraToldYa found a deal on 35-inch all-terrain tires but didn’t have his Cybertruck yet to transport them. We fit all four massive tires in the bed of the Rivian with zero issues. Whether it’s hauling gear for friends or hitting the trails, the utility of the R1T remains unmatched.

Upcoming Content: Death Valley & EV Confessions

I’ve got a massive backlog of technical and lifestyle content coming your way:

  • Death Valley Off-Roading: We took the Rivian R1T out with the Rivian Club for some light off-roading. Even with road tires, the truck handled the desert terrain beautifully.
  • EV Confessions with Dennis: I sat down with Dennis to talk about his transition from a BMW i3 to the Tesla Model 3. It’s a great deep dive into early EV adoption.
  • Japan Trip: Abby and I are heading back to Japan to spend some points. I’ve started a new second channel for non-car travel content, so check the description for that link.

Final Thoughts & Thanksgiving Thanks

I’m incredibly thankful for the support this year. From crossing 1 million views to getting my CES media pass, none of this happens without you all. If you’re looking to take advantage of Tesla’s year-end deals—including the new lease-to-buy option—please consider using my referral code to save some cash and help the channel.
