SEMA 2024 Day 2: Audio Madness, Off-Road Accessories, and Smart Gear

From shaking audio demos to smart car diffusers and Tesla-specific camping gear, Sherwin dives into the North Hall at SEMA 2024 to find the best tech for your EV.

We are back at SEMA 2024 for Day 2! I thought I was in the North Hall yesterday, but that was Central—now we are officially in the North Hall. This area is a complete shift in vibe. It’s loud, the buildings are literally shaking from audio demos, and the focus is heavily on interior accessories, mobile electronics, and portable outdoor gear.

Portable Power and Tool Tech

I kicked things off with Vettoman, checking out their Flash Speed 1500 portable power station. This is a 1,548Wh LFP battery unit that packs a serious punch. A unique feature I haven’t seen on many units this size is the integrated jump-starter port—it can actually jump-start your car if the battery dies. It supports up to 1,500W output and can be expanded with extra batteries for a total of 3,000Wh.

I also ran into the crew at Beta Tools. They have a collapsible, portable tool cart that folds completely flat for transport in a truck or SUV but expands into a multi-tier workstation once you’re on the shop floor or at the campsite.

Smart Scents and Phone Mounts

Technology isn’t just about big batteries; it’s about the small details too. I talked to Chad at Pura about their Car Pro smart diffuser. It’s a rechargeable, wireless scent system that connects to an app to control intensity. The coolest technical feature? It has a built-in accelerometer, so it only releases fragrance when the car is actually moving, saving you money on scent discs.

For the Tesla owners, A2C showed me some innovative phone mounts. They have a design that clips directly into the unique hidden vents of the Model 3 and Y, and another that latches onto the corner of the center display. Both are MagSafe compatible and offer a really clean alternative to the bulky suction cup mounts we usually see.

Outdoor Living: Refrigeration and Camping

This hall was packed with overlanding gear. I spent a lot of time with Chinu and Chen Fan looking at portable refrigeration:

Cybertruck fridge
  • Dual-Zone Tech: Most of these units, like the Chinu portable fridge, feature dual zones where you can set one side to -4°F for freezing and the other for standard refrigeration.
  • Tesla Specifics: Chinu has a model specifically designed to fit perfectly into the Model Y sub-trunk, maximizing that hidden storage space with an active compressor-based fridge.
  • Electric Grilling: I met “M” from Piie, who showed off a battery-powered electric grill that can even be mounted to a vehicle’s hitch.

The Tesla/Rivian Connection

I’m always hunting for Rivian gear, and I finally found a win! W-Global (Albert) confirmed their W29 hitch-mounted bike rack is compatible with the Rivian’s 2-inch receiver. It can hold two ebikes at 80 lbs each, with tires up to 5 inches wide.

For the Model Y campers, Tesloid has a custom-tailored tent that fits the rear hatch perfectly. Because it seals the gaps, you can run the Tesla in Camp Mode, and the HVAC system will actually help heat or cool the tent space. They also showed off some incredibly convincing Napa leather seat covers in a “Tan” color that isn’t available from the factory.

Windshield Protection for the Big Glass

Lastly, I stopped by US Shield to look at Skinex. It’s basically PPF for your windshield. For those of us with Model Xs and their massive panoramic windshields, this is a lifesaver. It’s a TPU film applied to the outside to prevent rock chips and cracks—saving you from those rising insurance deductibles.
