Frunk or Treat: Halloween Vibes at Rove Charging Santa Ana
What’s going on, everyone! Sherwin here. We are back at the Rove charging station in Santa Ana, but today isn’t just about topping off the battery. We’re here for a special community event: Frunk or Treat.
Originally, I was going to bring the Model Y, but then I remembered that Rivian dropped a killer Halloween software update. I had to bring the R1T to show off the “Knight Rider” skin [00:32]. If you haven’t seen it yet, the light bar across the front mimics KITT from the classic show—it’s incredible tech and a perfect example of why I love these software-defined vehicles.

The EV Community in Full Force
One of my favorite things about these events is seeing the diversity of the EV world. It’s not just a Tesla show. While we had some beautiful Model 3 Highlands on display (shoutout to Halo Black and their SEMA-bound build [01:12]), there was a ton of variety on the lot.
I spotted a first-gen Model S, a Jaguar I-PACE (honestly, don’t see those in the wild too often! [02:01]), and a Volkswagen ID.4. It’s proof that the infrastructure Rove is building is attracting everyone, regardless of what plug they use.
Spotlight: The Hummer EV SUV
The real head-turner of the night was a Hummer EV 3X SUV [10:36]. I ran into Patrick and Liv from Mach E Vlogs, who were testing it out, and they let me take a closer look.
I’ve seen the truck version, but the SUV has a different presence. It’s aggressive, wide, and honestly, just looks mean in the best way possible. Here are a few technical takeaways from my quick walkthrough:
- Charging Port Placement: Unlike the truck, the SUV’s charge port is right at the rear corner [09:26]. This makes backing into chargers like the Tesla V4 units at Rove much easier because you don’t have that extra body length to worry about.
- The Interior: It features a premium two-tone (white/silver and black) interior that feels rugged but high-tech [07:26].
- The “Trunk” Situation: Here’s the technical catch—despite its size, the rear cargo area lacks a deep sub-trunk because the full-size spare is mounted on the back [08:46]. It’s a trade-off for that off-road aesthetic.
- Seating: This specific model didn’t have a third row [07:33]. As someone who values utility for gear and passengers, that’s a major consideration if you’re looking at this as a family rig.
Community, Gear, and Light Shows
We wrapped up the night with a massive Tesla Light Show [12:14]. Seeing a dozen EVs blinking in sync is always a crowd-pleaser and a great way to showcase the “fun” side of this hardware.
Events like “Frunk or Treat” remind me why I started this channel. It’s about the tech, sure, but it’s also about the people using it. Whether it’s HaloBlk showing off their latest accessories or just seeing kids grab candy out of a Rivian frunk, the EV culture is growing fast.
